The fear of going to the dentist affects millions and this is not just a localized problem. It prevents people from getting the dental care they need. While it is understandable that people have a fear of the noises, pain and the tools associated with visits to a dentist, it certainly should not be a fear that deprives them of the care they need. At Leedy Dental we make an extra effort to provide a warm and comfortable dental experience which will be free from fear, anxiety, and apprehension.
In our office, we use what is referred to as conscious sedation. The sedatives used are mild to moderate so you will be relaxed but aware of your surroundings and able to respond to the doctor. The process will be continuously monitored, and you will also be given an escort back after the procedure is completed if you have the feeling that the effects still linger.
The sedative used will be considered after taking into account a number of factors, including your medical history and present condition, your level of comfort and of the procedure to be performed. You will have the option of oral (prescription pill) and intravenous sedation.
Sedation can definitely distort your perception of time leaving you with a feeling that the procedure did not take long. However, apart from being relaxed, you may not remember much about the procedure after it has been completed because sedatives do have some amnesic effects.
At Leedy Dental we have several years of experience in sedation dentistry. We are equipped to cater to your needs and are looking forward to making your dental procedures as comfortable as they can be.
